Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are 18 years of age or older at the time of joining the trial.
- People who have been regularly taking any type of once-weekly GLP-1 medication (a type of injection used for diabetes or weight management) for at least one month before the trial begins.
- People who are willing to follow standard fasting guidelines before their trial visit if assigned to that group, which means only drinking clear liquids up to 2 hours before, eating a light meal up to 6 hours before, and avoiding fried, fatty foods or meat for at least 8 hours before.
- People who are willing to follow a 24-hour clear liquid diet before their trial visit if assigned to that group, which means no solid food and no liquids within 2 hours of the visit.
- People who are willing to sign and date a consent form agreeing to take part in the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have had a bleeding episode in their digestive tract within the past month.
- People who have previously had surgery on their lower oesophagus (the tube connecting the throat to the stomach) or stomach.
- People who have a known structural abnormality in their upper digestive system, such as a hiatus hernia or stomach tumour.
- People who have been diagnosed with a condition that significantly affects how their stomach empties, such as gastroparesis (a condition where the stomach empties too slowly).
- People who are currently using insulin.
- People who are unable to lie on their right side, which is required for the stomach ultrasound used in this trial.
- People who have difficulty fully understanding the study materials due to English not being their primary language.
