Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 to 90 years, of any sex
- People who have weakness in one arm caused by a recent stroke (either a blocked blood vessel or a bleed in the brain)
- People whose arm weakness is mild to moderate — specifically, some movement is still possible in the thumb, fingers, and wrist even without gravity helping, as measured by a standard muscle strength scale (MRC score of 2 or higher)
- People who are within 90 days of their stroke
- People who are able to understand the study information and sign a consent form
- People who are physically able to carry out the study activities
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have other neurological conditions in addition to their stroke
- People who have joint, bone, or muscle conditions that affect movement in their arm
- People with severe psychiatric (mental health) disorders
- People with severe difficulties in thinking or understanding language that would prevent them from following exercise instructions (as measured by a standard cognitive test, with a score of 17 or below)
- People who have had botulinum toxin (such as Botox) injected into the affected arm in the past 60 days, or for whom such treatment is planned during the study period
- People who have open wounds, infections, or unprotected skin sores on the arm
- People who have severe muscle stiffness (spasticity) in the arm, specifically in the bicep, wrist, or finger muscles (as measured by a standard scale, with a score above 3)
- People who are unlikely to follow the exercise program consistently
- People who have not signed the study consent form
