For the person with dementia (the patient):

  • People who have been diagnosed with mild or moderate dementia
  • People who have had pain on most days for at least 3 months, where that pain gets in the way of everyday activities
  • People who are living at home (not in a care facility or nursing home)
  • People aged 50 or older
  • People who speak English

For the caregiver:

  • People who provide an average of at least 4 hours of care or assistance per day to the person with dementia
  • People aged 18 or older
  • People who speak English

Who may not be able to join:

For both the patient and caregiver:

  • People who are not able to take part in an interview or are unable to give their agreement to participate in the study
  • People with significant vision or hearing difficulties, or severe behavioural problems that would make participation too difficult
  • People who are too unwell to take part
