Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who have been diagnosed with a type of bile duct cancer that starts inside the liver (intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma), confirmed by a tissue sample, where the cancer cannot be surgically removed or has spread, and who have not yet received any treatment that works throughout the whole body (such as chemotherapy)
  • People whose cancer cannot be removed due to it growing into important blood vessels or bile ducts, or because the remaining liver would not be large enough or healthy enough after surgery, or because the cancer has spread to multiple areas of the liver or to distant lymph nodes or other organs
  • People whose cancer has come back more than 6 months after a previous surgery to remove it — or, if additional treatment such as chemotherapy or radiation was given after that surgery, more than 6 months after that additional treatment was completed
  • People who are in generally good physical condition, rated as fully active or able to carry out light activities (known as an ECOG score of 0 or 1)
  • People who have at least one area of cancer that can be clearly measured on a scan, according to standard measurement guidelines (RECIST 1.1)

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have previously received systemic treatment (treatment that works throughout the whole body) for their cancer
  • People with seriously reduced liver function, or who have significant yellowing of the skin or eyes, confusion caused by liver problems, fluid build-up in the abdomen that cannot be controlled, or kidney failure related to liver disease
  • People with serious blood clotting problems that cannot be corrected
  • People with active hepatitis or a serious infection that cannot be treated at the same time as trial treatment
  • People who are in a severely weakened physical state or who have multiple organs that are failing
