Who might be able to join this trial:

For families where at least one member has IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) or JIA (a type of childhood arthritis):

  • The family includes a mother and father with at least one child aged 0–18 years, and the parents are in good health
  • At least one family member (adult or child) has been diagnosed with IBD, or at least one child in the family has been diagnosed with JIA — any level of disease severity counts, and current treatment does not matter

For families without these conditions ("healthy families"):

  • The family includes a mother and father with at least one child aged 0–18 years, and all family members are in good health
  • No family member has a chronic inflammatory bowel disease or any chronic autoimmune inflammatory condition

Who may not be able to join:

For people with IBD:

  • People whose IBD is caused by a single gene mutation (known as a monogenic disease)
  • Children who have had their colon surgically removed (colectomy) or who have a stoma bag connected to the small intestine (ileostomy)

For healthy family participants:

  • People who have any chronic inflammatory bowel disease, any autoimmune disease, or an ongoing infectious illness

For people with JIA:

  • No exclusion criteria have been listed for this group (confirm with trial site)
