Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who weigh at least 15 kilograms (about 33 pounds)
- People who have been diagnosed with ulcerative colitis (UC) for at least 3 months
- People whose UC is currently moderately to severely active, based on specific scores measuring bowel movement frequency, rectal bleeding, and findings from a camera examination of the bowel
- People whose UC has not responded well enough to standard treatments such as steroids, immune-suppressing medicines, or biologic medicines — including people who need steroids just to keep their symptoms under control and whose disease gets worse when they try to reduce the steroid dose
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose bowel condition has not been clearly classified as UC, or who have been diagnosed with a related but different condition such as indeterminate colitis, isolated proctitis, or toxic megacolon
- People who currently have an active infection of any kind
- People who have previously had a severe or complicated shingles (herpes zoster) infection affecting multiple areas of the body, the eyes, or the nervous system
- People who are currently taking ongoing medication to treat a chronic infection such as pneumocystis, cytomegalovirus, herpes simplex, shingles, or atypical mycobacteria
- People who have previously had surgery to remove their colon, or who have had a large portion of their small bowel removed
- People who have psychological or cognitive difficulties that could make it hard to participate in a study
- People who have previously taken a type of medicine called a JAK inhibitor (such as tofacitinib, baricitinib, or upadacitinib) or any medicine that works in the same way
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant or breastfeed during the study period
