Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are older than 20 years of age.
- People who have had their first stroke and, as a result, have weakness or partial paralysis on one side of their body.
- People whose affected arm can still make some voluntary movements, such as lifting the arm to chest height and holding it there for five seconds, and making small bending and straightening movements of the wrist and hand.
- People who are able to understand and follow two-step instructions.
- People who understand what the trial involves and are willing to sign a consent form agreeing to take part.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another neurological (brain or nervous system) condition in addition to their stroke.
- People who have a bone or joint condition that affects movement in their arms.
- People who have pain that limits movement in their arms.
- People whose general health or vital signs (such as heart rate or blood pressure) are not stable.
- People who are currently taking part in another rehabilitation or medication research study at the same time.
- People who have received botulinum toxin (commonly known as Botox) injections within the past three months.
