Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults aged 18 or older who have been diagnosed with moderate-to-advanced chronic kidney disease (stage 3 or 4)
- People whose chronic kidney disease has caused anemia, with a hemoglobin (red blood cell) level below 11.5 g/dL
- People who are currently being treated with medications that stimulate the body to produce red blood cells (known as erythropoiesis-stimulating agents)
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose anemia is caused by something other than chronic kidney disease, such as pernicious anemia, thalassemia, sickle cell anemia, or bone marrow disorders
- People who are experiencing severe diabetic complications (such as diabetic coma or severe ketosis), serious infections, complications around the time of surgery, or severe physical trauma
- People who have had acute heart failure, a heart attack, or a stroke within the 6 months before joining the trial
- People who currently have cancer or have had a cancer diagnosis within the past 2 years
- People diagnosed with a condition called pure red cell aplasia, where the bone marrow stops producing red blood cells
- People who are experiencing severe gastrointestinal (digestive tract) bleeding
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
