Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been clinically diagnosed with a stroke and are within 6 months of it happening
• People who have weakness or paralysis affecting one arm as a result of their stroke
• People whose affected arm has limited movement, at a level below stage 4 on a scale doctors use to measure stroke recovery (called the Brunnstrom scale) (confirm with trial site)
• People who are able to walk with some level of independence, scoring above 3 on a walking ability scale called the Functional Ambulation Category
• People aged between 40 and 80 years old
• People who are able to understand and follow simple instructions
• People who are well enough physically to take part in balance and movement testing
• People who have given their written agreement to take part in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

• People with severe problems with memory or thinking, such as scoring below 23 on a standard cognitive test called the MMSE
• People with vision problems or inner ear problems that affect their balance
• People with significant problems affecting the bones, joints, or muscles of their legs
• People with heart or lung conditions that are not well controlled
• People who use mobility or support equipment that would prevent a shoulder sling from being worn
• People with severe difficulties with speaking or understanding language that would make communication during the trial too difficult
• People who have skin wounds or injuries on or around the shoulder area that would prevent a sling from being used
