Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been admitted to hospital for an acute stroke (either a blockage or bleed in the brain) and need inpatient rehabilitation as a result
- People who have had their first stroke, affecting only one side of the brain
- People aged between 21 and 99 years old
- People who are able to walk 10 metres with some physical help from another person
- People whose doctor has confirmed they are medically stable enough to take part in high-intensity exercise
- People who will be staying in the inpatient rehabilitation ward for at least 10 consecutive weekdays
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have another condition affecting the brain, nerves, or muscles — or a bone or joint injury — that could affect their ability to walk or exercise
- People with heart or lung disease that is not well controlled
- People who are not able to follow a three-step instruction
- People who are not able to give their own consent to take part in the study
- People who are not suitable to wear the medical monitoring device used in this trial (called fNIRS) — for example, people who have had certain types of brain surgery such as removal or replacement of part of the skull (confirm with trial site)
