Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged between 18 and 85 years old
- People who had a stroke at least 6 months ago that affected the cortical or sub-cortical areas of the brain, and who still have weakness on one side of the body as a result
- People who are able to give informed consent and follow a two-step instruction
- People who speak English
Who may not be able to join:
- People who cannot stand up from a chair without physical help from another person (using an assistive device on their own is acceptable)
- People who have a history of blood clots in their arms or legs, or any condition where compression of the thigh or brief reduction in blood flow would not be safe (for example, wounds on the leg)
- People who have had ongoing severe COVID-19 symptoms lasting more than 6 months (such as those who were hospitalised due to COVID-19)
- People who have had a head injury or concussion in the past 6 months
- People who have another neurological condition in addition to their stroke
- People who have peripheral vascular disease (a condition affecting blood flow in the limbs)
- People who have had a heart attack or a heart rhythm problem within the past year
- People whose resting blood pressure is 180/100 mmHg or higher
- People who are pregnant or breastfeeding
- People who have another significant health condition that the lead researcher determines could affect the study or raise safety concerns
