Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been vaping or smoking cigarettes every day, or nearly every day, for at least 6 months
- People whose cotinine level (a marker of nicotine use measured by a quick urine or saliva test) is 200 ng/mL or higher
- People whose antipsychotic medication dose has stayed the same for at least the past 6 months
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are planning to quit daily or near-daily vaping or smoking within the next month
- People who have used pipe tobacco, hookah/shisha, smokeless tobacco, dissolvable tobacco, or nicotine pouches on 2 or more days in the past week (and, for people in the vaping group only, people who have used cigars, cigarillos, or filtered cigars containing tobacco or a tobacco-marijuana mix on 2 or more days in the past week)
- People who are currently using any medication designed to help with quitting smoking
- People who are currently dealing with a serious dependence on substances other than tobacco or nicotine, including cannabis, as measured by a standard screening tool (confirm with trial site)
- People who have had thoughts of suicide with a plan or intention to act in the past 2 weeks
- People who are currently pregnant, as confirmed by a urine test at intake
- People who are currently experiencing severe symptoms of psychosis or significant thinking difficulties, as measured by specific scores on a standard psychiatric assessment tool (confirm with trial site)
