Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged 40 years or older
• People who have a specific type of eye angle blockage (where the drainage angle of the eye is closed for more than half its circumference)
• People diagnosed with glaucoma that has caused damage to the optic nerve along with loss of vision in parts of their visual field
• People whose eye pressure remains above 21 mmHg (a unit used to measure eye pressure) even while using eye pressure-lowering medication

Who may not be able to join:

• People whose glaucoma is very advanced, with vision reduced to only being able to detect light
• People whose angle-closure glaucoma is caused by another underlying condition
• People who have had previous eye surgery or a specific laser procedure on the eye (laser peripheral iridotomy)
• People with a known allergy to a medication called 5-fluorouracil (5-FU), which may be used after the procedure
• People with a permanent, irreversible disease affecting the cornea (the clear front surface of the eye)
• People who use corticosteroid (steroid) medications on an ongoing basis
• People who are unlikely to be able to attend regular follow-up appointments
• People with a cataract rated as severe (grades 4 or 5 on the standard clinical scale)
• People with certain specific types of cataracts that are related to the lens causing complications within the eye, or where the lens is not sitting in its normal position
