AI generated eligibility summary. Written by an AI model from the official source data and checked on a sample basis. It can contain mistakes, so confirm anything important against the original source. How we use AI

Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People aged 18 or older
  • People who have had an acute (sudden-onset) ischemic stroke that began, or was last noticed, between 24 and 120 hours before enrolment, OR people whose stroke symptoms have been gradually worsening over a period of 24 hours to 7 days
  • People whose stroke severity falls within a specific moderate range, as measured by a standard medical stroke scale (NIHSS score between 5 and 25)
  • People who have a significant blockage or narrowing (70% or more) of a major brain artery (the internal carotid artery or a specific branch of the middle cerebral artery), confirmed by specialised imaging, and identified as the artery causing the stroke
  • People whose brain scans meet at least one set of imaging criteria showing that a meaningful amount of brain tissue may still be salvageable — this is assessed using MRI, CT angiography, or CT perfusion imaging, each with specific measurements (confirm with trial site for which set of criteria applies)
  • People who have given their signed agreement to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who had some degree of physical disability before the stroke (confirm with trial site what level of prior disability is being assessed)
  • People who are unable to undergo the required blood vessel imaging
  • People with a known allergy to iodine-based contrast dyes or anaesthetic agents, or who have a medical reason that prevents them from having an endovascular (inside-the-blood-vessel) procedure
  • People who have already received an endovascular treatment for this stroke during the current hospital stay
  • People whose initial brain scan shows bleeding in the brain
  • People with a very low platelet count, a known bleeding disorder, certain clotting factor deficiencies, or who are on blood-thinning medication with a clotting level above a specific threshold
  • People with severely high blood pressure that has not responded to medication (systolic above 200 mmHg or diastolic above 120 mmHg)
  • People who have had any form of bleeding in or around the brain within the past 3 months
  • People whose brain scans show significant swelling causing the brain to shift from its normal position
  • People whose stroke is suspected to have been caused by a blood clot from the heart, or by non-atherosclerosis-related conditions such as arterial tears, Moyamoya disease, heart valve infection, or inflammatory blood vessel disease
  • People who have previously had a stent placed in the same artery identified as causing this stroke
  • People who have had major surgery within the past 30 days
  • People who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding
  • People with serious other health conditions where life expectancy is less than 3 months
  • People whom the trial investigators consider unsuitable for participation for any reason
