• You are between 50 and 80 years old

Who may not be able to join:

• You have a serious breathing condition other than COPD or asthma that may be the main cause of your breathing symptoms
• You have severe asthma, meaning you are on high-level asthma medications, have had 3 or more unplanned medical visits for asthma in the past year, or have been hospitalised for asthma in the past year (confirm with trial site)
• You are currently taking part in another clinical trial where the treatment is kept secret (blinded)
• You are currently pregnant; women who could become pregnant will need to provide documentation of birth control
• You have a cognitive (thinking or memory) difficulty that would prevent you from completing study activities
• Your body mass index (BMI) is above 35, as body weight can affect the quality of the CT scan images
• You currently use illegal substances, including smoking cannabis
• You have a serious illness that is expected to be life-limiting within the next 3 years
• You have any metal implants or devices in your upper body that could interfere with CT scan quality
• You have a history of radiation therapy or surgery to the chest where lung tissue was removed
• You have had a COPD flare-up in the last 30 days, but you may be able to re-apply once 30 days have passed since finishing any treatment for it
• You are currently taking a short-term course of antibiotics or steroids, but you may be able to re-apply 30 or more days after finishing them (note: this does not apply if you take low-dose steroids or antibiotics regularly on a long-term basis — confirm with trial site)
