Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who were between 18 and 75 years old (inclusive) when they were first diagnosed with their cancer
- People who have been diagnosed with esophageal cancer (cancer of the food pipe) confirmed by a tissue biopsy, with complete medical records including a pathology report and formal cancer staging
- People who have not had any other type of cancer at a different part of the body (except for certain skin cancers or very early-stage cancers that have been fully cured)
- People whose scans (CT, MRI, and bone scan) taken within 4 weeks before enrolling show the cancer has not spread to the liver, lungs, bones, or other organs
- People who have not previously had surgery to remove the esophagus, chemotherapy, significant radiation to the chest (above 10 Gy), or certain immunotherapy drugs (PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors)
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose overall health is very poor, with a life expectancy of less than 6 months based on standard health assessments
- People who do not have the legal capacity to make their own decisions and do not have a legal guardian who can act on their behalf
- People with active serious mental health conditions such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or significant memory or thinking difficulties (confirmed with trial site)
- People whom the trial investigators determine should be excluded for other medical reasons (confirm with trial site)
