Who might be able to join this trial:

• People aged between 18 and 80 years old
• People who have had an ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel in the brain) confirmed by an MRI scan, affecting a specific artery in the brain called the middle cerebral artery
• People who have had a hemorrhagic stroke (a stroke caused by bleeding inside the brain) confirmed by a CT scan
• People whose stroke began less than 72 hours before the brain wave (EEG) test is scheduled to take place
• People experiencing their very first ischemic stroke
• People who show a measurable level of disability or impairment on a standard stroke assessment scale used by doctors
• People who are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

• People who had a transient ischemic attack (a "mini stroke" where symptoms go away quickly) rather than a full stroke
• People whose stroke happened more than 72 hours before joining the study
• People whose bleeding in the brain was caused by a burst blood vessel on the brain's surface (subarachnoid haemorrhage), a head injury, a clot in a brain vein, or who need urgent brain surgery
• People with a history of other brain or nervous system conditions
• People who are unable to safely have an MRI or EEG brain wave test for any reason
• People who have an injury or active infection on the part of the head where the EEG cap would be placed
• People with claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces) or significant difficulty with recognition or awareness
• People with a known hole or defect in the skull, or a history of head trauma
• People who have previously had a brain-related medical procedure, such as a metallic implant in the head, a brain pacemaker, or brain surgery
• People with a significant physical impairment that would prevent them from using the portable EEG devices
• People with cancer or a systemic rheumatic disease (a disease affecting joints, muscles, or connective tissue throughout the body)
• People with a condition other than stroke that affects movement or sensation
• People with alcohol or drug addiction
• People who have a pump or shunt (a medical device implanted in the body to move fluid)
• People with severe difficulties in thinking, memory, or understanding
• People with a history of epilepsy or who are currently taking medication for epilepsy
