Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults between 18 and 85 years of age, of any gender
  • People who have been diagnosed with an ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blocked blood vessel) according to standard Western medical criteria
  • People who also meet the Traditional Chinese Medicine diagnosis for stroke (known as "Zhongfeng")
  • People whose stroke symptoms began no more than 72 hours before their diagnosis

  • People whose brain scans show conditions with similar symptoms to stroke, such as brain tumours, brain infections, or bleeding in or around the brain
  • People with significantly abnormal liver or kidney function test results above specific levels (confirm with trial site)
  • Elderly people who are considered physically frail, or people who currently have an infection
  • People with a history of mental illness or dementia
  • People with serious disease affecting other major organs, any type of cancer in any part of the body, people currently receiving cancer treatment, or people whose life expectancy is less than 6 months
  • People with a significant history of drug or alcohol misuse
  • Women who test positive for pregnancy during screening, who plan to become pregnant during the trial, or who are currently breastfeeding
  • People who are currently taking part in another clinical trial, or who have done so within the past month
  • People who are currently taking a type of medication called a cholinesterase inhibitor, or who have taken one within the past 3 months (confirm with trial site)
  • People with certain pre-existing health conditions including epilepsy, movement disorders, bowel obstruction, asthma, chest pain (angina), a slow heart rate, or glaucoma
  • People for whom an MRI brain scan is not safe, such as those with a pacemaker, certain metal implants, or severe claustrophobia
