Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You have stones in your gallbladder AND in the main bile duct (the tube that carries bile from the liver to the small intestine), confirmed by a scan.
  • You have been diagnosed with a gallbladder or bile duct infection, yellowing of the skin/eyes (jaundice), or test results or scans that strongly suggest stones in the main bile duct.
  • You have already had a procedure called ERCP (a camera procedure to remove bile duct stones) that was not successful.
  • You are healthy enough to have general anesthesia and tolerate the type of surgery and camera procedures used in this trial.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You have had a previous surgery that connected your bile duct directly to your small intestine.
  • You have had a previous stomach removal surgery (full or partial).
  • You are severely obese (confirm with trial site for specific weight/BMI threshold).
  • You have a blood clotting problem that cannot be treated or corrected.
  • You do not wish to give your consent to take part.
  • You are pregnant.
  • There is a suspicion that you have a cancerous blockage in your bile ducts.
  • You have a severe bile duct infection that has made you critically unwell or caused dangerously low blood pressure, requiring emergency treatment.
  • Your bile duct stone(s) are stuck or larger than 1.5 cm and considered too large to be removed by a camera procedure.
  • You have a serious heart or lung condition that would make surgery significantly more risky.
  • You have stones inside the liver that require surgery.
  • Your bile duct stones are larger than 2 cm or there are too many stones to be safely removed.
