Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 65 years of age (men and women)
- People with epilepsy that has not been controlled by treatment and who need a specific type of brain monitoring procedure — this applies to the intracranial EEG parts of the trial only
- People who have received a formal diagnosis of a schizophrenia-related condition (such as schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, delusional disorder, brief psychotic disorder, or schizophreniform disorder) — this applies to the non-invasive TMS-EEG parts of the trial only
- People who have the capacity to understand what the study involves and what the potential risks are, so that informed consent can be given
- People with no current or past major neurological conditions other than epilepsy
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a formal diagnosis of intellectual disability
- People with a significant history of head injury
- People who are currently experiencing suicidal thoughts, or who have made a suicide attempt in the past year
- People with a medical condition that affects the structure or function of the brain, or any other medical condition that is currently uncontrolled or unstable
- People who are pregnant or in the early postpartum period (less than 6 weeks after giving birth or experiencing a miscarriage)
- People who are unable to provide informed consent
- People who have actively used substances other than alcohol or cannabis within the past year
- People whose psychotic symptoms appear to be directly related to substance use or a head injury
- People for whom MRI or TMS procedures would not be safe — for example, those with certain metal implants in the body (confirm with trial site)
