Who might be able to join this trial:

  • Adults aged 18 or older
  • People who have been diagnosed with an idiopathic epiretinal membrane (a type of scar tissue that forms on the surface of the retina) confirmed by eye examination and a special eye scan called OCT imaging
  • People whose eye has clear enough internal structures to allow detailed imaging of the back of the eye
  • People who still have their natural lens in the eye being studied (the eye has not had cataract surgery)
  • People who are able and willing to sign a written consent form agreeing to take part

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have had cataract surgery in the eye being studied, or who have a severe cataract that would need to be treated at the same time as the main surgery
  • People who have other retinal conditions in the affected eye, such as diabetic retinopathy, a detached retina, or a blocked retinal vein
  • People who have health conditions that would make surgery or follow-up appointments unsafe
  • People who have a history of using steroid (corticosteroid) medications in or around the eye, including injections into or around the eye, or long-term use of steroid eye drops
