Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who are former athletes and still do regular physical exercise at a moderate to vigorous level at least 3 days per week (Group A).
• People who are largely inactive — meaning less than 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week or a low activity score on a standard physical activity questionnaire (Group B).
• People in either group whose exercise habits or inactive lifestyle have been consistent for at least 6 months before the study assessments take place.

• People who have had a severe head injury with loss of consciousness in the past 5 years.
• People who drink more than 3 alcoholic drinks per day.
• People who regularly use certain medications, including anxiety medications, antipsychotics, opioids, anti-seizure drugs, or sleep sedatives.
• People with hearing or vision problems significant enough to interfere with the study tests.

• People with certain brain abnormalities found incidentally that could affect thinking ability or life expectancy — for example, a malignant brain tumour.
• People with a severe ongoing illness — for example, cancer currently under treatment.
• People who use anabolic substances (such as performance-enhancing drugs).
• People who have difficulty understanding spoken or written Spanish.
• People with pacemakers or metal implants that could interfere with an MRI scan.
