Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old at the time of your screening appointment
- A qualified skin doctor (dermatologist) has diagnosed you with alopecia areata at your screening appointment
- Your current episode of alopecia areata has been affecting your scalp for more than 3 months before the start of the study
- Your hair loss falls within a specific range on a standardized measurement scale called the SALT Score (between 10 and 50) at the start of the study (confirm with trial site)
- Your condition has been stable and not changing much over the past month
- You are willing to avoid using any alopecia areata treatments during the study, including pills, injections, creams, light therapy, or any other treatments
Who may not be able to join:
- You currently have other types of hair loss or scalp conditions (such as pattern baldness, stress-related hair loss, scalp fungal infections, psoriasis, lupus, or syphilis) that could affect the study results
- You have previously been treated with a medication called cyclosporine
- You have another autoimmune disease (a condition where your immune system attacks your own body)
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a serious or unstable health condition affecting your heart, lungs, liver, stomach, hormones, blood, brain, or mental health that the study doctor believes could put you at risk or affect the study results — this includes uncontrolled high blood pressure, known kidney disease, or an active infection
- You are not able to give your own consent to participate in the study
- You are currently incarcerated (in prison)
- You are currently taking certain medications that are known to interact with cyclosporine, including some antibiotics, antifungals, anti-inflammatory drugs, and other specific medicines (confirm with trial site for the full list)
