Who might be able to join this trial:
- You have severe obesity, meaning your BMI is over 40, or over 35 along with at least one related health condition (such as heart disease, heart failure, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, stroke, blood clots, sleep apnea, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, high cholesterol, joint problems, or polycystic ovary syndrome)
- You are between 18 and 65 years old
- You have been diagnosed with Binge Eating Disorder (BED) according to standard medical guidelines (DSM-5)
- You are willing to take part and sign a consent form agreeing to participate
- You are able to understand and communicate in Norwegian
Who may not be able to join:
- You are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant within the next year
- You are currently taking certain medications that strongly affect appetite or weight, such as steroid tablets or antipsychotic drugs
- You have significant kidney disease where your kidneys are working at a reduced level (confirm with trial site)
- You have significant liver disease or signs that your liver is not functioning properly (confirm with trial site)
- You currently have cancer
- You have previously had a specific type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid cancer
- You have previously had pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas)
- You are currently struggling with active substance or drug abuse (note: a past history of drug abuse is acceptable)
- You have received specialist medical or psychological treatment for an eating disorder in the last 6 months
- You have a serious ongoing psychiatric condition that would prevent you from following a structured lifestyle programme
- You have any other illness or previous treatment that the trial doctors feel could affect your safety or the quality of the study results (confirm with trial site)
- You have previously had weight-loss (bariatric) surgery
- You have used appetite-suppressing medications (such as GLP-1 drugs or naltrexone/bupropion) within the last 6 months
- You have taken part in another clinical drug trial within the past month
