Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are between 18 and 65 years old and have been diagnosed with schizophrenia according to standard medical guidelines (DSM-5)
- Your symptoms and medications have been stable for more than 3 months, and you are taking no more than two antipsychotic medications (other medications such as antidepressants or anxiety medications are also allowed)
- Short-term use of a type of calming medication called benzodiazepines is permitted
- Your fasting blood tests show at least one of the following: total cholesterol of 5.2 mmol/L or higher, triglycerides of 1.7 mmol/L or higher, or LDL ("bad") cholesterol of 3.4 mmol/L or higher
- Two separate fasting blood sugar tests (taken 1–4 weeks apart) both show a result below 6.1 mmol/L
- You are able to attend all study appointments without major issues related to moving, travel, or accessing healthcare during the study
- Both you and your legal guardian are willing to give written consent to take part
Who may not be able to join:
- You have previously been diagnosed with diabetes or have had a serious diabetes-related complication such as diabetic ketoacidosis
- You have liver or kidney problems, shown by certain blood test results being significantly above the normal range (confirm with trial site)
- You have a serious condition affecting the gut, lungs, hormones, blood, or your body's ability to absorb nutrients — including poorly controlled diabetes, serious infections, heart disease, a stroke within the past year, a history of abnormal heart rhythm, active hepatitis B or C, or conditions affecting nutrient absorption
- Your heart tracing (ECG) at the screening stage shows certain abnormalities — for example, a specific heart rhythm measurement (QTc interval) that is too high for your gender (confirm with trial site)
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
