Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years of age or older
- You are receiving strong chemotherapy to prepare for a stem cell transplant (using your own or a donor's cells) or a CAR T cell therapy, OR you are receiving chemotherapy to treat acute leukaemia
- You developed a fever (temperature of 38°C or higher) at some point during or after your chemotherapy, before your blood counts began to recover
- Your fever has gone away (temperature stayed below 38°C) for at least 48 hours but less than 96 hours before joining the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- Your fever lasted for 5 or more days in a row before it came down
- A blood test found bacteria in your blood (a positive blood culture) during this fever episode, before you could be enrolled
- You have another confirmed or suspected infection that needs antibiotic treatment
- You have a moderate or severe mouth sore condition, or a serious bowel inflammation linked to low blood counts (confirm with trial site)
- You are medically unstable or have been admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) at the time of potential enrolment
- You took part in another randomised trial within the last 28 days
- You have already been enrolled in this trial during the same chemotherapy cycle
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You are currently being treated for a severe immune reaction related to CAR T cell therapy (specifically grade 3 or 4 CRS or ICANS) (confirm with trial site)
