Who might be able to join this trial:
If you have asthma or eczema (Study Group):
- You are aged 3 years or older
- If you are 18 or older, you can give your own consent to take part; if you are under 18, a parent or guardian can consent on your behalf
- You scored positive on a screening questionnaire about asthma or eczema
- A doctor has diagnosed you with eczema (atopic dermatitis) or asthma using recognised medical guidelines
- Your condition has been present for at least 3 months before the screening visit
If you are a healthy volunteer (no asthma or eczema):
- You are aged 3 years or older
- If you are 18 or older, you can give your own consent; if under 18, a parent or guardian can consent on your behalf
- You scored negative on a screening questionnaire about asthma and eczema
- You are in good general health and have not been diagnosed with eczema or asthma by a doctor
- You do not meet the medical diagnostic criteria for eczema or asthma (confirm with trial site)
- You have no personal history of food allergy
Who may not be able to join:
- You have taken antibiotics in the 3 months before screening
- You are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have taken part in a trial involving an experimental drug within the last 12 months
- You currently smoke or have used tobacco in the last 4 months
- You currently have a skin infection other than eczema (for example, scabies)
- You are currently experiencing active diarrhoea, meaning three or more loose stools per day
- You currently have an active bacterial, viral, or fungal infection (a fungal nail infection alone would not automatically exclude you — confirm with trial site)
- The trial doctor decides that another health condition or factor may affect the trial results (confirm with trial site)
