Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 years or older
- People who have had a temporary stroke-like episode (called a transient ischemic attack) or a mild stroke affecting the brain or eye within the past 15 days
- People who have a narrowing of 50% to 99% in the carotid artery (a main blood vessel in the neck) on the side related to their symptoms, where a procedure to open or bypass that artery has already been recommended by their doctors
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unwilling or unable to attend follow-up appointments
- People who already had a significant level of disability before their recent stroke or episode (confirm with trial site)
- People whose carotid artery narrowing is caused by something other than a build-up of fatty deposits (atherosclerosis)
- People who have additional severe narrowings in connected arteries (confirm with trial site)
- People who have previously had a procedure to treat narrowing in the same carotid artery
- People with a history of a bleeding disorder
- People with unstable chest pain (unstable angina)
- People who cannot take two blood-thinning medications together for medical reasons
- People who cannot have an MRI scan for any reason
- People with a life expectancy of less than 2 years
- People who have had or are planned to have another procedure on a blood vessel within 30 days before or after the study procedure
- People where the artery narrowing found on testing does not appear to be the cause of their symptoms (confirm with trial site)
