Who might be able to join this trial:
- You were admitted to the hospital mainly because of a COPD flare-up, or you were admitted for serious breathing problems with a COPD flare-up also present.
- You had a CT scan (a type of detailed X-ray) during your hospital stay, and the scan showed that you have lower than normal muscle mass in your chest area.
- You are older than 40 years of age.
- You have been diagnosed with COPD through a breathing test, and your results show at least a moderate level of airflow blockage.
- You have a smoking history of at least 10 "pack years" (for example, smoking one pack per day for 10 years), and you can be either a current or former smoker.
Who may not be able to join:
- You have another lung condition in addition to COPD, such as a scarring lung disease or asthma.
- You are currently being considered for, or are already approved to receive, a lung transplant.
- You currently have an active cancer diagnosis.
- You have serious problems with another major organ, such as a weak heart (pumping less than 40% of its normal capacity), kidney failure requiring dialysis, or severe liver scarring (cirrhosis) seen on imaging.
