Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 50 or older
- People who are not under any form of legal guardianship or protection
- People who have been diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) according to the 2022 ACR classification criteria, and who also have a specific finding called a "halo sign" — seen on one or both sides — during an ultrasound scan of the temporal artery (a blood vessel near the temple)
- People who have been newly diagnosed and for whom doctors have determined that steroid (corticosteroid) treatment is needed
- People who have not yet started any steroid treatment for GCA
- People for whom steroid treatment is not medically ruled out
- People who are enrolled in, or covered by, a social security or health insurance scheme
- People who have given their free, fully informed, and written consent before any research-related examinations take place
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are experiencing a relapse (return) of Giant Cell Arteritis, rather than a new diagnosis
- People who have previously had a temporal artery biopsy (a small tissue sample taken from the artery near the temple), for any reason
- People who have taken oral steroid medication in the past month, or who are currently on steroid therapy (note: hydrocortisone and locally applied steroids are excluded from this restriction — confirm with trial site)
- People who have another type of blood vessel inflammation (vasculitis) that could explain their symptoms, indicated by certain positive blood or laboratory tests (ANCA antibodies, syphilis serology, or a positive IGRA test)
- People who have received immunosuppressive treatments or biologic therapies (medicines that target the immune system) within the month before joining the trial
