Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who are female and between 18 and 75 years old
  • People who are well enough to carry out most daily activities (assessed using a standard medical scale called the Karnofsky Performance Status, with a score of 60 or above)
  • People who have been confirmed through laboratory testing to have invasive breast cancer (a specific type called adenocarcinoma)
  • People who have had a full mastectomy (removal of the whole breast, with or without preservation of the nipple and surrounding skin area), along with removal or sampling of underarm lymph nodes, and placement of a breast implant or tissue expander — and where the surgery removed all visible cancer with clear margins
  • People whose cancer was at a certain stage at the time of surgery: either stage pT3 or with cancer spread to multiple lymph nodes (N2–3), or earlier-stage tumour with limited lymph node involvement (pT1–2N1) (confirm with trial site if unsure which category applies)
  • People who have no cancer that has spread to distant parts of the body
  • People who have completed their full course of standard chemotherapy given either before or after surgery
  • People who are entering the trial within 8 weeks of finishing chemotherapy, or within 12 weeks of surgery if no chemotherapy was given
  • People who have read and signed a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have previously had radiation therapy to the chest wall or nearby lymph node areas
  • People who are currently pregnant or breastfeeding
  • People whose cancer was classified as T4 stage (confirm with trial site)
  • People who have had breast reconstruction using their own body tissue (autologous reconstruction) in the breast that would be treated with radiation
  • People who have any cancer recurrence — local, regional, or distant — detected before radiation treatment begins
  • People who have serious implant-related complications (graded 3 or above on a standard medical scale) that have not resolved before radiation treatment starts
  • People who have cancer in both breasts and would require radiation to both sides
  • People who have or have had another cancer diagnosed within the last 5 years — except for certain low-risk cancers such as non-melanoma skin cancer, certain thyroid cancers, or a very early form of cervical cancer
  • People who have an active connective tissue disease such as lupus or scleroderma
  • People who have uncontrolled serious health conditions, including active heart or cardiovascular disease, substance abuse, or unmanaged psychiatric conditions
