  • For the stroke group: people who have been clinically diagnosed with a stroke at least 1 month before joining the trial
  • People who are able to walk at least 10 meters, with or without a walking aid such as a cane or walker

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who have a life expectancy of less than one year

  • People who are blind
  • People who have a neurological disease that is getting progressively worse over time
  • People who are in an unstable medical condition at the time of the trial
  • People who have significant problems with their muscles, bones, or joints that affect the way they walk
  • People who have congestive heart failure or unstable angina (a serious form of chest pain)
  • People who have peripheral vascular disease (a condition affecting blood flow to the limbs)
  • People who have severe neuropsychiatric conditions, such as dementia, significant cognitive difficulties, or severe depression
