- For the stroke group: people who have been clinically diagnosed with a stroke at least 1 month before joining the trial

- People who have congestive heart failure or unstable angina (a serious form of chest pain)
- People who have peripheral vascular disease (a condition affecting blood flow to the limbs)
- People who have severe neuropsychiatric conditions, such as dementia, significant cognitive difficulties, or severe depression
