  • People who have a psychiatric condition such as anxiety, depression, other mood disorders, or psychosis related to drug use.
  • People who have serious internal health conditions, are currently taking certain medications (including those for breathing, heart, seizures, or mental health), or have significant disease affecting the gut, kidneys, liver, lungs, immune system, hormones, or heart — or who have cancer, alcohol dependency, or substance addiction.
  • People who have severe hearing or vision impairment.
  • People who have another serious illness where life expectancy is estimated to be less than 2 years.
  • People who have previously had surgery on the skull or brain.
  • People for whom MRI scans or a type of brain stimulation called transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) are not safe — for example, those with a cardiac pacemaker or who have had deep brain stimulation surgery.
  • People who have eczema or particularly sensitive skin.
  • People who have the inherited (familial) form of Alzheimer's disease.
  • People whose dementia is caused by something other than Alzheimer's disease, such as vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, or dementia caused by infection.
  • People whom the trial investigators consider unsuitable for the study for any other reason.
