Who might be able to join this trial:
For the caregiver (parent or guardian):
- The child's mother, father, or other legal guardian
- Someone who speaks English
- Someone who has access to a phone or computer that can receive emails or text messages from the study team
For the child:
- A girl between 8 and 12 years old at the time of joining the study
- Someone who speaks English
- A girl who has not yet started her period
- A girl considered at risk for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) or insulin resistance, meaning at least one of the following applies: her mother had PCOS or gestational diabetes (diabetes during pregnancy); her body weight is at or above the 85th percentile for her age; she has had early onset of puberty-related hormone changes (called premature adrenarche); or she was born smaller than expected for how far along the pregnancy was
Who may not be able to join:
- Girls currently taking certain medications, including metformin, GLP-1 receptor agonist medications (a type of diabetes or weight medication), insulin, or hormone-suppressing medications (GnRH agonists)
- Girls with certain hormonal or gland conditions that affect insulin sensitivity, male hormone levels, or growth
- Girls diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes, or a condition called Congenital Hyperinsulinism (a condition causing abnormally high insulin levels from birth)
- Girls with a tumour on the adrenal gland or a condition called Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (a hormone disorder present from birth)
- Girls with an overactive thyroid, or an underactive thyroid that is not well controlled
- Girls with Growth Hormone Deficiency
- Girls with heart, nerve, or muscle/joint conditions that would prevent them from taking part in physical activity, including Type 1 diabetes in this context
- Girls with serious additional health conditions including severe heart defects from birth, major physical birth differences, cystic fibrosis, cerebral palsy, conditions requiring tube feeding, undiagnosed conditions significantly affecting growth and development, or serious heart, liver, cancer, inflammatory, or psychiatric conditions
