Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are at least 18 years old
- Your doctors have agreed in a team meeting that you need a specific type of surgery to connect your pancreatic duct to part of your small intestine, to treat chronic pancreatitis
- You have chronic pancreatitis causing serious symptoms — either pain that requires strong opioid painkillers (like morphine), or repeated flare-ups of pancreatitis (at least 3 times per year)
- A scan has shown that your pancreatic duct is widened (5mm or more), and the head of your pancreas is not enlarged beyond a certain size (confirm with trial site)
- Your chronic pancreatitis has been officially confirmed using a recognised medical checklist called the M-ANNHEIM criteria (confirm with trial site)
- You are medically well enough to have either robot-assisted surgery or traditional open surgery
- You have given written agreement to take part in the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- You currently have, or are suspected of having, pancreatic cancer
- Your overall health is considered too poor to safely undergo surgery based on a standard medical fitness scale (confirm with trial site)
- You have another condition causing pain that is hard to tell apart from your pancreatitis pain
- You have had surgery on your pancreas before
- You are currently pregnant
