• You currently take medication for diabetes
• You currently take medication for high cholesterol
• You currently take medication for obesity or weight management
• You currently take cortisone tablets or other oral cortisone-based medication
• You have had a bad reaction or allergy to a medicine called metformin
• You have a condition called acute metabolic acidosis, where acid builds up in the body (confirm with trial site)
• You have kidney problems or reduced kidney function
• You have liver problems or reduced liver function
• You have heart failure or serious breathing/lung problems
• You have a serious mental health condition
• You have problems with alcohol dependency
• You work at the clinic running this trial, or are a close family member of someone who does
