Who might be able to join this trial:
- Adults between 18 and 75 years of age
- People who have X-ray evidence of osteoarthritis in both knees, rated between 2 and 4 on a standard medical severity scale (the Kellgren-Lawrence scale)
- People who have pain of 4 or higher (out of 10) in both knees, as measured on a standard pain rating scale
- People whose knee symptoms have continued despite at least 6 months of conservative treatment, such as medications, physiotherapy, or joint injections
- People who are willing and able to take part in all study procedures, including rehabilitation sessions and follow-up appointments
- People who have signed a form giving their informed consent to participate
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are unable to understand the study or give consent to participate
- People with an active cancer diagnosis
- People diagnosed with certain inflammatory or autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis, Reiter's syndrome, psoriatic arthritis, gout, ankylosing spondylitis, arthritis caused by another inflammatory disease, HIV infection, active viral hepatitis, or calcium crystal deposits in the joints (chondrocalcinosis)
- People with diabetes that is not well controlled
- People with thyroid disorders that are not well controlled
- People with a history of alcohol, drug, or medication misuse
- People with a leg alignment problem greater than 5 degrees in the lower limbs
- People with a Body Mass Index (a measure of body weight relative to height) above 35
- People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or planning to become pregnant during the study period
- People who have had a knee injury or received an injection into a knee joint in the 6 months before the screening appointment
- People who have had knee surgery in the 12 months before the screening appointment
- People who do not have enough fatty tissue in the abdominal (stomach) area, as determined by the study investigator (confirm with trial site)
