Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been referred to, or have referred themselves to, the PEP (First Episode Psychosis) Clinic in the Estrie region, either as an outpatient or as someone staying in hospital.
- People who have been taking a second- or third-generation antipsychotic medication at a steady, unchanged dose for at least 4 weeks.
- People who are able to read and communicate in French or English.
- People who are able to understand and sign a consent form agreeing to take part in the trial.
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently pregnant, have given birth in the last 6 months, or are breastfeeding.
- People who have used MCT oil, ketone salts, or followed a ketogenic (very low-carbohydrate) diet at any point in the past year.
- People who have previously been diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
- People who are experiencing active, uncontrolled thoughts of suicide at the time of joining the PEP clinic.
- People with other health conditions that a qualified doctor determines could interfere with taking part in the trial.
- People with pancreatitis (a condition where the pancreas is inflamed) or liver failure.
- People with a medical condition that affects how the body processes fats, or who have an inherited deficiency in carnitine or its related enzymes.
- People with a condition called porphyria.
- People with a condition called pyruvate kinase deficiency.
- People with a neurodevelopmental disorder of unknown cause, or a rare genetic disease.
