Who might be able to join this trial:

  • People who had a stroke more than 3 months ago and whose stroke was caused by reduced blood flow to the brain (ischemic stroke)
  • Both men and women are eligible
  • People aged 40 years or older
  • People who have reached at least stage 3 on the Brunnstrom scale, which relates to recovery of movement after stroke (confirm with trial site)
  • People with good cognitive (thinking and memory) function, based on a standard test called the MMSE, with a score of 20 or higher
  • People who are able to walk at least 10 metres, with or without a walking aid

Who may not be able to join:

  • People who are currently receiving other therapies or treatments that could affect the results of this study
  • People who have medical conditions that make rehabilitation unsafe, such as severely uncontrolled high blood pressure, uncontrolled diabetes, or unstable chest pain (angina)
  • People who have had other neurological conditions affecting the brain or nervous system, apart from stroke
