Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who are between 50 and 90 years of age
- People who have had a confirmed stroke (either a blockage-type or bleeding-type stroke) that occurred at least six months before joining the trial
Who may not be able to join:
- People with significant hearing loss, as measured by a specific hearing screening questionnaire (a score above 26 on the HHIE-S test)
- People who are unable to have an MRI scan for any medical reason
- People with significant memory or thinking difficulties, as measured by a standard assessment tool called the MoCA (a score below 22), unless the lower score is caused by difficulty speaking due to the stroke (confirm with trial site)
- People who do not enjoy or feel rewarded by music, as measured by a specific questionnaire called the Barcelona Music Reward Questionnaire (a score below 60)
- People who have difficulty recognising or processing music, as measured by a battery of musical tests called the MBEA (a score below 70%)
Please note: People currently taking medications that may affect brain function (such as antidepressants), or those taking part in other therapies such as mindfulness or yoga, are not excluded from this trial. Starting new medications or therapies during the study is also permitted.
