Who might be able to join this trial:
- People of any sex are welcome to participate.
- You must be between 18 and 64 years old.
- You must have a confirmed diagnosis of Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis (diagnosed for more than 3 months), based on recognised European guidelines.
- Your condition must be moderately to severely active, and your doctor must have already decided you need a biologic medication or a JAK inhibitor treatment to help bring your disease under control.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) cannot be clearly classified as either Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.
- People who have had part of their bowel surgically removed due to IBD, unless it was only the junction between the small and large intestine (called an ileocecal resection).
- People who have short bowel syndrome (a condition where the bowel cannot absorb enough nutrients).
- People who need medication because their IBD has come back after surgery.
- People who currently have active disease around the anal area.
- People who need medication because of a narrowing or blockage in the bowel.
- People who have previously taken part in a clinical trial involving medication for IBD.
- People who do intense exercise (such as running or heavy gym work) more than 3 days per week (confirm with trial site).
- People who regularly drink more than one standard alcoholic drink per day.
- People with diabetes that is not well managed or controlled.
- People who regularly take water tablets (diuretics).
- People with serious kidney disease who are on dialysis.
- People who have significant fluid retention causing swelling in the legs or fluid build-up in the abdomen.
- People who have a cardiac pacemaker fitted.
- Women who are pregnant or currently breastfeeding.
- People who are unable to give their written consent to participate.
