Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are 18 years old or older
- You have a history of a spinal cord injury at the neck level (at or above the C6 vertebra)
- Your spinal cord injury occurred more than 1 year ago and your condition has been neurologically stable since then
- A doctor has cleared you to take part in this study
- You have some weakness in at least one wrist when trying to bend it upward (wrist extension)
- Your current medications are expected to stay the same for at least 3 months (note: stable use of muscle spasm medications such as baclofen, diazepam, or tizanidine is acceptable)
Who may not be able to join:
- You have an injury to the motor nerve cells themselves (confirm with trial site)
- You have an unstable medical condition
- You have significant difficulties with thinking, memory, or understanding, since this study involves a learning-based treatment
- You have a history of epileptic seizures
- You have another existing neurological condition, such as multiple sclerosis, stroke, or Parkinson's disease
- You have any metal implants in your skull
- You have a medical device implanted in or above your chest, such as a pacemaker or cochlear implant
- Specific nerve signal tests in your wrist muscles show no measurable response (confirm with trial site)
- You are completely unable to produce any voluntary muscle activity in your wrist extensor muscles (confirm with trial site)
- You use functional electrical stimulation on your arm every day on an extensive basis
- You are pregnant
- You or your legal representative are unable or unwilling to give informed consent to take part
