Who might be able to join this trial:
- People who have been diagnosed with prostate cancer confirmed by a biopsy showing a type called adenocarcinoma.
- People whose scans (bone scan and CT scan, or a special PSMA-PET scan) show no signs that the cancer has spread to other parts of the body.
- People whose cancer meets at least one of these risk factors: a PSA level of 20 or higher; a Gleason score (a measure of how aggressive the cancer looks under a microscope) of 8 or higher; cancer that has grown beyond the prostate in a specific way (stage T3a or higher); or at least two of the following four factors together: PSA between 10–19.9, Gleason score of 4+3, clinical stage T2b or T2c, or 50% or more of biopsy samples containing cancer (confirm with trial site).
- People who have given their free and voluntary written agreement to take part in the study.
- People who a doctor has determined are healthy enough to undergo surgery and a type of internal radiation treatment called HDR brachytherapy.
- People aged 40 or older.
- People who are in good general health and able to carry out daily activities, with little to no limitation due to illness (rated 0 or 1 on a standard medical scale).
- People who have not had another type of invasive cancer in the past 3 years, with exceptions for certain skin cancers or specific non-spreading cancers of the bladder or head and neck area.
- People who have not received hormone-blocking treatment for prostate cancer in the past 6 months.
Who may not be able to join:
- People whose scans show the cancer has spread to bones or other parts of the body.
- People who a heart specialist or other doctor has assessed as having high risk from anaesthesia.
- People who have previously had radiation therapy to the pelvic area.
- People whose prostate gland measures larger than 70 cc (cubic centimetres) on a scan.
- People with significant urinary symptoms that remain above a certain level even after medical treatment (confirm with trial site).
- People who have received hormone-blocking therapy for prostate cancer within the past 6 months (a medication called finasteride may be an exception if stopped more than 3 months before joining — confirm with trial site).
- People who are unwilling or unable to follow the requirements of the study.
