Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 18 or older, of any gender, who have signed a consent form agreeing to take part.
- People who attend the hVIVO respiratory clinic and have been diagnosed with asthma, confirmed by at least one of the following: a positive methacholine challenge test, a positive bronchodilator test, significant variation in peak breathing flow during the day, a meaningful improvement in lung function after a course of asthma treatment, or a doctor's diagnosis of current asthma.
- People who, in the opinion of the study doctor, are able to follow the requirements of the study.
Who may not be able to join:
- People with asthma who are not attending the hVIVO respiratory clinic.
- People whose main breathing condition is something other than asthma — however, having both asthma and another lung condition (such as COPD, bronchiectasis, or interstitial lung disease) is acceptable.
- Women who are breastfeeding, or who have a positive pregnancy test at any point during the screening process.
- People who, in the doctor's opinion, are unlikely to complete the full 5 years of follow-up — for example, due to difficulties with reading, substance use, or other serious health conditions.
- People who have certain conditions that make breathing tests unsafe, such as unexplained coughing up of blood, a history of high blood pressure in the lungs, a previous collapsed lung, unstable heart conditions, aneurysms, or recent eye, chest, or abdominal surgery (confirm with trial site).
- People who have a history of anaphylaxis (a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction) at any point in their lifetime.
