Who might be able to join this trial:

• People who have been diagnosed with long-term (chronic) pain in a specific part of the body (peripheral pain) that was caused by an injury or surgery.
• People between the ages of 19 and 80 years old.
• People who are currently taking medication to manage their pain.
• People who have experienced this pain more than once a week for at least three months in a row, based on their own report.

Who may not be able to join:

• People who have an implanted electronic device in or near the head that is controlled by body signals, such as a deep brain stimulator, cochlear implant, or vagus nerve stimulator.
• People who have metal implants in their head or within about 30 cm of the treatment device, such as aneurysm clips, stents, implanted electrodes, or bullet fragments. (Note: standard dental fillings are considered acceptable.)
• People who have an active infection, as this can affect certain blood cells involved in the study.
• People whose urine drug test comes back positive for a range of substances listed in the trial criteria (confirm with trial site for the full list).
• People taking any medications other than pain medications, unless those medications have been taken consistently for at least 60 days before joining the trial. People using methadone or buprenorphine specifically to treat opioid addiction would not be eligible.
• People who have a systemic autoimmune condition such as rheumatoid arthritis or lupus.
• People who have significant muscle wasting (cachexia) or are assessed as severely frail based on a specific health scoring tool.
• People with uncontrolled high blood pressure (above 140/90) or who have heart or artery disease.
• People with poorly managed diabetes, based on a blood sugar level test result above a certain threshold.
• People with a neurological condition such as Parkinson's disease or multiple sclerosis.
• People who have been hospitalised for a serious psychiatric condition within the past 12 months, or who are currently experiencing thoughts of suicide.
• People whose thinking or memory difficulties would make it hard to understand and follow the study procedures, as assessed by a standard cognitive screening test.
• People who are pregnant.
