Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged over 70
- People who have been seen by a specialist doctor in neurology or geriatrics for memory concerns
- People who have had a brain MRI scan within the past year, or who have one planned as part of their memory assessment
- People who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or vascular dementia (a type of dementia caused by problems with blood flow to the brain), or people who have memory concerns but have not been diagnosed with any form of dementia
- People where neither the patient nor their caregiver objects to taking part
- People who are covered by a health insurance plan
Who may not be able to join:
- People who have a known narrowing of the carotid arteries (the main blood vessels in the neck) on one or both sides, or who have had surgery on these arteries in the past
- People who have a permanent irregular heart rhythm (a condition sometimes called permanent atrial fibrillation)
- People who are currently experiencing a state of confusion or sudden mental disorientation
- People with a known serious psychiatric condition, such as severe depression or psychosis
- People diagnosed with a form of dementia that is neither Alzheimer's disease nor vascular dementia — for example, Lewy Body Dementia, Parkinson's-related dementia, or Progressive Supranuclear Palsy
- People who do not wish to participate
- People who score 10 or below on a standard memory and thinking test called the Mini-Mental State examination (confirm with trial site)
- People for whom having an MRI scan is not medically safe
- People who are currently experiencing a serious flare-up of any health condition
- People who are under a formal legal guardianship or curatorship arrangement
