Who might be able to join this trial:

  • You spoke English as your first language before your stroke (by your own report).
  • You have normal vision, or your vision is corrected to normal with glasses or contact lenses.
  • You have normal hearing, or you use a hearing aid.
  • You have had a stroke on the left side of the brain (either a bleed or a blockage), confirmed by a brain scan.
  • You have difficulty reading since your stroke, as shown by a specific reading test called the Woodcock Reading Mastery Test - III.

Who may not be able to join:

  • You had a brain condition or neurological disease diagnosed before your stroke (other than the left-sided stroke itself).
  • You have a severe difficulty with the physical act of producing speech sounds, known as severe apraxia of speech, as decided by a team of speech-language specialists.
  • You have a history of a learning disability such as developmental dyslexia, or you currently have a major psychiatric disorder (by your own report).
  • You are unable to have a brain scan done after your stroke, or you cannot provide a copy of one that has already been done.
