Who might be able to join this trial:
- You are a patient at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN
- You are 50 years old or older
- You have been diagnosed with mild, moderate, or severe hand osteoarthritis, confirmed by an X-ray taken within the last 2 years
- You experience hand pain of at least 40 out of 100 on a pain scale when using the affected hand
- You are able to fill out study questionnaires on your own
Who may not be able to join:
- You have had surgery on the affected hand in the past
- You have an autoimmune joint disease, such as rheumatoid arthritis or psoriatic arthritis
- You have another active hand condition, such as trigger finger or Dupuytren's contracture (a condition that causes fingers to bend toward the palm)
- You injured the affected hand within the last month and are still in pain from that injury
- You have had a gout or pseudogout flare-up in the affected hand
- You have used strong opioid pain medicines or steroid tablets in the last 3 months
- You have fibromyalgia or a condition called central sensitization syndrome (confirm with trial site)
- You have had an injection into your hand within the last 3 months
- You have had a specific type of low-dose radiation treatment to the hand within the last 3 months (confirm with trial site)
- You have poorly controlled diabetes, based on a blood test result above a certain level (confirm with trial site)
- You currently have an active infection
- You are currently pregnant
