Who might be able to join this trial:
- People aged 55 or older who have agreed to take part by giving their informed consent
- People who have had a mild acute ischemic stroke (a stroke caused by a blood clot) that did not cause significant disability, confirmed by an MRI scan, and which occurred at least 7 days but no more than 14 days before the start of the study
- People who show some level of cognitive impairment (mild difficulties with memory or thinking), based on a specific scoring test called the MoCA, with the cut-off score depending on how many years of education the person has had
- People with sufficient Chinese language skills to understand and answer interview questions, complete questionnaires, and take part in thinking and memory tests
Who may not be able to join:
- People who are currently taking part in, or have taken part in, another experimental drug trial within the past 4 weeks
- People with communication difficulties such as trouble speaking, understanding language, or significant vision or hearing loss that could affect their ability to take part in the study or complete cognitive tests
- People who had cognitive impairment or dementia (such as Alzheimer's disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, or frontotemporal dementia) before their stroke
- People whose stroke was caused by a heart condition, or who have atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat), or any condition that requires them to take blood-thinning medication (anticoagulants)
- People who needed clot-dissolving medication (thrombolytics) on the day of screening or the first study visit
- People whose stroke involved any bleeding into the brain (hemorrhagic transformation)
- People who are currently taking traditional Chinese medicines
- People with a serious neurological condition, including (but not limited to): bleeding in the brain, delirium, Parkinson's disease, brain tumour, brain damage from alcohol, brain infections, epilepsy, recent head injury, subdural hematoma, HIV-related cognitive problems, Huntington's disease, or several other specified brain conditions
- People with major depression or generalised anxiety disorder
- People with an active cancer diagnosis
- People with alcohol addiction or substance abuse problems
- People with a known allergy or sensitivity to Ginkgo biloba, Ginkgo biloba extract, or any ingredient in the trial medication
- People who would not be able to attend follow-up visits at the required times — including those in long-term hospital care or full nursing home care where they are bedridden and require general nursing assistance (confirm with trial site regarding specific living situations)
- People with a serious illness where life expectancy is less than 12 months
