Who might be able to join this trial:
- Your child has been diagnosed with asthma by a doctor, and this is recorded in their medical records.
- Your child has persistent or poorly controlled asthma, meaning at least one of the following applies in the past month: symptoms on more than 2 days per week, using a quick-relief inhaler more than 2 days per week, nighttime symptoms more than 2 nights per month, or needing oral steroids (like prednisone) more than twice in the past year.
- Your child is between 4 and 12 years old and attends a public, charter, or private school in New York City (mainly the Bronx) or in the lower Hudson Valley area (Eastchester, Westchester, Rockland, or Yonkers).
- The parent or caregiver is able to speak and understand English or Spanish (reading is not required, as research staff will read surveys aloud if needed).
- The parent or legal guardian is able to give permission for the child to join, and children aged 7 and older must also agree to participate.
- Your household has access to a phone for surveys, and a smartphone, iPad, or computer to complete and sign forms electronically.
Who may not be able to join:
- Your family is planning to move away from the school or city within the next 6 months.
- Your child has other significant health conditions, such as a serious heart condition from birth, cystic fibrosis, or another long-term lung disease.
- Your child is in foster care or another situation where a legal guardian is not available to give consent.
- Your child is currently taking part in another asthma-related research study.
- Your child has a severe developmental condition (for example, severe autism) that would make it too difficult to complete questionnaires about asthma control.
